Rhetorical Analysis: Gladiator Film Trailer
1. The argument for this film trailer is that a man went from being a general, to a slave, to a gladiator and eventually defeated a whole empire. This powerful man whose family was brutally murdered sought justice and freedom for himself and his people.
2. The audience would be targeted at mostly men of all ages. However, I myself am included in this audience being that I enjoy movies as well as this era in time.
3. This preview’s goal would be to convince the audience that this movie is entertaining and worth watching; that it is thrilling and action packed.
4. This goal is accomplished by use of pathos (emotion). It appeals to emotion by scripting the trailer with, “A general became a slave, a slave became a gladiator. That gladiator conquered and defied a whole empire after the tragic death of his wife and son”. This is a typical presentation of how most action films appeal to their audience.
5. It is effective in that the preview creates much excitement for the viewer by use of music and emotion. It leaves the viewer curious as to what exactly goes on in the film and why.
